Riot and Raven....
The relationship between Riot and Debbie Pollard's 11 year old German Shepherd, Raven, is an odd
one. Well, maybe not to them, but definitely to Debbie and I. *LOL*
Raven is one of the most regal dogs I have ever met, possessing more human-like qualities that any dog
should. Anyone who meets Raven can see that she calmly rules the roost at Debbie's place and on most
days, when she's not helping Debbie move stock between pens, she chooses to sleep in the office rather
than be bothered by all those "other dogs".
When Riot first met Raven, he was clearly more enamoured of her than she was of him and when he
began sniffing her in a manner she was clearly not impressed with, she told him off...big time! For Riot,
being the goofy boy he his, that just sealed the deal....it was LOVE. As for Raven, she decided that Riot
would be her's, after all, every Princess needs an adoring subject.
Whenever Riot is around, Raven always comes out to see him and will follow us out to the sheep pen to
"supervise" Riot's training. It always makes Debbie laugh, because Riot is the only dog Raven does this
with. When Riot's done working, Raven will wait for him to come back and then "allow him" to rest next to
her. The other day; however, Raven decided that instead of supervising Riot's training, she would
actually conduct Riot's training! Debbie said that Raven has never done this before, but clearly she was
having a ball herding with Riot from outside the duck arena. The pictures don't do it justice...it was a
great site to see!
Sadly, Debbie lost Raven just a few months after these pictures were taken. It's strange to say that Riot
mourned the loss of his "Princess", but it was clear to Debbie and I both that he missed his favorite girl.
The ranch is not the same without her and she is sorely missed by all who were lucky enough to know her.
